And since these bulbs are just as easy to install as any other replacement bulb, you can reap the benefits of NightHawk's intelligent bulb technology within a few short minutes.
The ultra-bright, street-legal GE Nighthawk bulbs ease the challenge of night driving by making it easier to see the farther down the road. | NightHawk bulbs are designed for all drivers. Whether you're an automotive do-it-yourselfer looking to upgrade to the latest lighting technology, or a casual driver simply seeking the brightest GE bulbs available, the NightHawk delivers by putting more light on the road in areas where you need it the most. Using a robust filament and a refined, xenon gas composition, Nighthawk produces an average 30-percent more luminance than GE's standard original-equipment halogen bulbs. Plus, with the vast range of the NightHawk product line, 95-percent of cars and light trucks on the road today can benefit from GE's new bulb technology. More and more time is spent in vehicles, both for business and pleasure, so brighter bulbs and better vision can make a big difference. According to CR, these work on only one vehicle August 23, 2008 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
According to CR (that well-known consumer-oriented product testing magazine), these work on only one vehicle -- the Honda Ridgeline. CR agrees that a lot of OEM headlights simply do not offer enough visibility distance on low beams. During their testing these bulbs extended the Low Beam viewing distance from 350 feet to 400 feet. But only on this one vehicle of the group they tested. On the rest, none of the bulbs tested made ANY difference -- and several made the situation worse!
Complaints from other drivers filed with NHTSA say that 30% of other drivers are bothered by oncoming HID bulbs using Low Beams (much less High Beams). The higher the bulbs are from the road surface, the worse the problem. So larger SUVs and Trucks create a bigger irritant.
Many people who buy these bulbs swear by them. But most vehicles do not benefit under controlled tests. If you can live with people flashing their beams at you by way of complaining about the brightness of your headlights -- go ahead, but be forewarned. The special pricing offered here is very good.
Work fine July 7, 2008 The lights work great. I had OEM lights on my Honda Element they were about 4-5 years old. But I instantly notices a lot more detail in the street with the Nighthawks. There is a slight yellowish tent now. Over all I am happy with the lights. I am not sure what some of the reviewers expected the lights to do but I think they are a good value.
Noticeably better visibility than original equipment January 30, 2008 I have a 2002 Honda CRV. About 2-3 years ago I noticed that my night vision just wasn't as good as it had been when I was younger! I replaced the original equipment headlamps with the GE Nighthawks and it was a big improvement. I don't know if the headlights actually "reach" further, but they give better contrast so I definitely have more visibiblity. After 2-3 years of driving about 18K miles per year, the Nighthawks burned out. I couldn't find them in any local stores, so I put the Sylvania competitive line in. I just didn't like them as well; the Sylvania's had a more obvious pattern that was distracting on winding roads. I was glad to see the Nighthawks on Amazon & at a good price.
Disappointed...Consumer Reports was right January 12, 2008 9 out of 10 found this review helpful
I own a 2004 Honda CRV and was hoping to improve the headlight performance. I've heard about the aftermarket headlamps that claim to provide HID-like performance. I also read the Consumer Reports review that summarizes that these aftermarket bulbs do not perform better than OEM and typically have a shorter lifespan. I decided to try the GE Nighthawk and was disappointed. I replaced one bulb and compared it to the original (which is four years old): it looked slightly whiter but it did not improve night visability (it did not illuminate any objects farther away). The GE Nighthawk was manufactured in Hungary, whereas most other brands are manufactured in Germany. I'm not in the lighting business, but the opaque cap on the bulbs were not the same length (not even close, where is the quality control?). Don't bother paying more for the GE Nighthawk, just go back to the Honda dealer and buy OEM replacements. Consumer Reports was right!
P.S. I also tried the Sylvania Ultra Silverstar on another vehicle and in my opinion they are no better than the Sylvania XtraVision (and 60% more expensive)
Really bright November 14, 2007 2 out of 5 found this review helpful
This is my 2nd Honda (CR-V 2002) and just like my accord, the original light bulbs or other regular ones were not bright enough, nor did they project the beams very far (without high beams.) Some of my friends who drive other Honda models made the same comments. I even had the headlights checked for height adjustment -thinking that it might be too low. It was not. So when one bulb burned out, I started researching. I didn't buy Sylvania's equivalent to the GE NightHawk because too many reviews said that they only last 6 months. Hopefully, GE will last longer (could not find any reviews); but in the meantime, they really live up to the advertisement: brighter & longer beam of light.
