I have been shopping memory foam mattresses for over three years. In the past year, a king sized mattress has become reasonable as long as it isn't a name brand. However, this price was far less expensive than I had ever come across by at least $200.00 and since it's Amazon - I decided to give it a try. You do get what you pay for but in this case, that's a good thing. You get the "mattress" and that's essentially a 5" king sized (if you order king) piece of foam. Then you also get the memory foam topper which is 3" as promised. It comes wrapped in plastic and wound in oodles of clear wrapping tape. Both come separately in their box. The pillow promised though was literally in pieces - the foam was all crumbled bits inside but that was OK - I didn't order this for the "free" pillow I have five memory foam pillows of my own.
As I said, each piece is wrapped in plastic and taped very, very tightly. It was a chore getting it all undone without digging into the foam itself with the scissors, but not really a problem. Definitely doable. The cover that comes with it isn't as plush as pictured, however it's a nice cover and fits both the topper and the mattress. If you want a firm mattress, this isn't for you. This is a very soft mattress and I am a small 5'3" inches and I'm not heavy but it still is very soft.
The typical odor that is always associated with memory foam was very minimal. In fact, after only about five hours with the mattress layers lying on top of our box spring with the windows cracked - I don't smell the odor any longer at all.
When I did the research for memory foam mattresses, I found out the bottom portion of the mattress is almost always made up of regular foam. There has to be some type of more firm non-memory foam base otherwise you'll end up sinking, sinking, sinking and you'll have about a 1/2 inch thickness. So that gave me the idea last year to just buy a firm foam base for a mattress, then a 4 inch memory foam topper that was firm and when we laid down on it it felt exactly like the memory foam mattresses in the stores. Just kind of thin.
So due to the fact this mattress is actually very soft, when we added the 4" memory foam topper we already had, this new very thick mattress mimics what is in the stores to a "T." So my suggestion is if you don't like super soft - get yet another 4" topper at least - and you'll have yourself a terrific mattress like we now have. You'll still save $100's over other memory foam mattresses even adding the extra topper. I wouldn't go any thinner than 4" though for your extra topper with this mattress. I tried toppers with less thickness that we already have and they're still too soft so now they're on our guest king beds in our guest rooms. Whenever our grown kids come to visit they want OUR bed - so now they'll have memory foam toppers for their beds and maybe they won't nag us!
This is an excellent value and the service even on the phone was very courteous and helpful. I couldn't believe how quickly they delivered such large boxes! I highly recommend this company!
