Customer Reviews:

3 out of 5 stars Works as advertised, but incredibly over-priced   July 2, 2008
Let me start by saying that I'm happy to own this device. I test vehicles for a couple of blogs that I write, and I used to head down to my local dyno shops and do test after test. Not only does this add up to a hefty expense, it's also incredibly time consuming.

So, the G-Tech seemed like the perfect item for me. No more trips to the dyno shop, no more forking over $65 for every test.

I opted for the RR model of the G-Tech Pro because I wanted to be able to print out dyno graphs on my computer, and the RR is the least expensive G-Tech model that offers these features.

Upon receiving the G-Tech, I noted a couple of things. First, Titan Motorsports sent me my $270 precise "g" meter in an unpadded fedex envelope. The meter itself was in its box, packaged in some bubble wrap, but I'm fairly confident that it was jostled around a lot during shipping. It seems to me that a performance meter featuring "the same military technology found in Missile-Guidance systems" should have been packaged a little more carefully.

Next, I open up the box, pull out my new meter, and it weighs next to nothing. Feels very cheap. It works just fine, but G-Tech hasn't done much to convince me their device is so valuable. The mounting bracket - the one with the suction cup - is a JOKE. It's cheap, it's difficult to use, and it doesn't work as well as it should. Don't get me wrong - the actual *suction cup* works quite well. However, the mechanism that attaches the *meter* to the suction cup is rinky-dink.

Like I said, the mounting bracket is a joke. It's not too bad if you intend to mount it in your vehicle and leave it their - you only have to dink around with it once - but if you need to move it from car to car (as I do), you'll be disappointed for sure.

As for the actual function, it performs as described. I haven't done too much with it yet, but I can say it's meeting my needs just fine. I do have to admit that the manual is quite nice - it's very clear and well written.

All in all, I would say this is a $50-$100 piece of electronics. It works, but nothing about it could be described as "quality." The buttons are cheap, the mounting bracket is terrible, and nothing else about the device convinces me it's actually worth what I paid for it. So, I give it a 3.

UPDATE: A couple more points about the G-Tech Pro RR. First, the device gets pretty warm after an hour of operation. I don't know if it's bad or not, but it doesn't feel good and I worry about it's long-term viability. Second, would it have killed G-Tech to upgrade to a USB connection? It currently requires a serial port to operate, but my fancy new laptop doesn't have a serial port. So I had to pay another $30 for a special serial-to-usb cable.

The G-Tech Pro RR is definitely cheap. That's all there is to it. Don't pay any more than you have to.
