Works, but quality control needs to be better May 2, 2008 My first unit had bad popping noises that came from a bad microphone connector on the unit. The 2nd unit I received did not have this problem, but when power is applied it starts on channel 33, the first unit was channel 9 which is what it should start on per the manual. So I really feel you could have some issue that is minor that your unit is not perfect.
Also I attempted to use the unit without a microphone attached and it requires the microphone for the internal speaker to work, kinda a weird design. My other complaint with it is that I believe with it powered down (complete power removed) it should retain the last channel you were on. Having to change the channel every time you turn the car on, I take it between vehicles and use a cigarette light and my cigarette light looses power when the car is off. I like things to go off with the car ignition so I don't have to power things on and off every time I get in the car.
The tuning knob is not of the highest quality, it can jump 2 channels when you click it once, and if you don't click it all way it will start running through the channels. But for the price you are getting it for it does seem to receive well with the Wilson Lil Wil antenna. Can't complain too much for the price, Im happy.
great for the price April 19, 2008 Midland 1001Z 40 Channel CB with Channel 9 Switch and PA Got this 3/17/08 and havent used it much but so far works great.I would recommend this to someone looking for a CB..
Great CB for the price April 3, 2008 I couldn't find a CB with all these features (RF gain, PA and CH9 switch) for less money and believe me I looked! The audio is clear and loud enough to be heard in a jeep. If I had to change one thing about it I would make the Microphone a little smaller. The unit is sleek and compact but the mic looks and feels like the classic mics of the 70.
Great for traveling. Turn it to channel 19 and hear some traffic info and learn a few new words and phrases in the process.
This little horse worth every penny! March 1, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Do not expect to have a bulky and metallic radio like oldies, this radio is small, new, all plastic, lightweight, semi cheapo electronics, not to rude (a lot of internal coils can be distorted or bended due a lack of sealant because are aerial coils just made of wire), But if you take care to this radio you can have a very reliable performance into a very very low cost item. If someone ask me, I will not install this radio into a jumping and vibrating 4x4, but for a car, suv or for base station replacement this baby do the trick very well. The RF level is a luxury in this kind of low cost radios, and that additional feature is grateful. 4 wats output, good rf meter, channel knob not very well designed and flimsy (you need extra care on it and a gentle touch) but in overall, a great product. For the price no cons at all, if you expect more, spend more... RWR
Good radio with such a price February 8, 2008 The radio is over all good with such a low price. The broadcasting distance is about 5 miles on high way. All the channels are reset to channel 9 if you disconnect the power. That means by connecting the radio's power wire to the fuse or battery, when you turn off the car's engine, the power is still there and enables the radio to remember the channel you were using. By turning on/off the radio with the knob, the channel remains the same as you used before.
If you connect your cb radio's power to the cigarette liter, when turning off your car's engine, no power supply is there anymore and your radio will forget the channel you were using. Your radio will reset all the channel to channel 9.
This feature can be simply improved by a capacity -- my suggestion. Anyway, I'd like to rate it @ 4.5 stars, if no such a choice, then 5 stars.
