Product Description The Thule 686 Atlantis 1600 Rooftop Cargo Box updates a classic design that has been proven to work by the test of time. The Thule Atlantis 1600 is the most popular size box in the Atlantis line. The Atlantis comes pre-installed with a new QuickGrip mounting system so you'll be on the road in seconds, and mounts directly to most after-market and factory-installed roof racks. This cargo box not only lets you access your gear from either side of the car using Thule's patented Dual-Side opening feature, but is easy to open and close with an improved locking system that features a user-friendly, padded key and readable decal. And as always, Thule's built-in safety feature means that the key can only be removed when the box is fully closed, so you don't accidentally lock yourself out. The Atlantis has an eye-catching design, sleek silver finish that compliments the aerodynamic lines of today's new car designs, measures 36 x 74 x 16.3 inches (W x D x H), and has a load capacity of 16 cubic feet. What's in the Box? 686 rooftop cargo box, 2 x straps, 4 x slide strips (pre-installed), 2 x keys, and instruction guide Manufacturer's Warranty Limited lifetime warranty

Excellent Luggage Carrier August 12, 2008 Bought this from Amazon for a 06 Honda pilot. Does not obstruct the rear hatch and protrudes slightly over moonroof. Does not interfere with XM or navigation although mounts over the receiver. Easy to install.May need to adjust crossbars, which requires a simple Hex Key ( aka L key). No noise at all at any speed. Easy to access. Didn't care much, initially, for the straps inside to secure luggage but actually work fine.
suits our needs well June 30, 2008 No assembly required, fastening to the top rack couldn't be easier but best accomplished w/ two people. Traveled in some rain and did not have any water entry issues when mounted to the top of our Pacifica...but did find some small bits of bugs inside the forward end after the trip. If some gasket or sealant material could be engineered into the edges of the box, it could possibly be made nearly water (and bug) tight. Also, I suspect the angle at which the box sits when mounted to a given vehicle and the amount of exposure to updraft coming from the windshield (at speed) play a pretty big part in the box's ability to keep things clean and dry. Overall, it does what I wanted it to do...which is giving me the capacity of a larger vehicle w/out buying (and fueling) a larger vehicle.
First trip a dream June 28, 2008 Used with a Volvo XC70 for our first camping trip of the year. Installation was a breeze (did it solo, but should have had someone help - did so for removal) and it performed excellent during the trip. MPG were only minimally effected - loss of ~1 mpg over normal levels. I was able to cram so much into the box that I had excess room in the car! The only issue I currently have is where to store it. Think about this before you buy one of these things - they don't just "fold up"! Bottom line: it did what I wanted and I'm glad I bought it!
Got it Just in Time May 30, 2008 The Atlantis 1600 arrived just in time for us to pick up our 3 adult children for a visit and some sightseeing in Arizona. I had it installed in about 10 minutes with only a little help from my wife getting it on top of our Highlander. I could and maybe should have done it by myself. I won't go into details, but it can be a one man job.
Great product May 29, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I installed this by myself in less than 10 minutes on a Ford Windstar with no tools. The quick connect design is well done. I wanted a rooftop carrier that was easy to install and remove and that would last many years, and that is why I chose the Atlantis 1600. I loaded it up with 3 medium sized suit cases, a chainsaw, toolbox, and some other tools and still had some room for smaller items. Easy access from both sides, and it was easy to open and close. Some wind noise when traveling around 70mph but not enough to be a nuisance. I couldn't even tell I had something extra on the vehicle from a driving/wind resistance perspective. I also hit some rain on my first trip and the Thule kept everything dry. I guess my only concern would be how well this can withstand a rock impact while on the road, but that same concern would apply to all the hard carrier brands.
