4 out of 5 stars Sony XDRF1HD HD Radio Tuner   September 2, 2008
Sony XDRF1HD HD Radio Tuner Review

After a long wait, I finally had the oportunity to test this unit out.
Antenna Used for FM: APS-13 w/o preamp 60 feet elevation
Antenna Used for AM: End Fed Longwire, transformer coupled

FM Rating: From West Michigan, filled every HD memory spot from the Chicago Market, distance: 110 miles
Down fall: Not enough memory channels!
Signal rejection from adjacent channels Very Good
Sensitivity Very Good
Noise HD, Excellent, and voice is raspy at times but Analog FM Excellent!
Zero bars on three bar signal scale will be audible.
Capture ratio, VERY GOOD
Down fall #2. Audio not stable after signal falls off. Volume gain control could be improved on weak signal.
RDS feature is excellent, with plenty of information scroll, and very fast aquistion time.
AM HD
Daytime: With longwire antenna, or CC Crane "AM JUSTICE" loop, you will be very pleased. Filled 10 HD stations from Grand Rapids, MI and Chicago markets.
The only pitfall here is that there's no switch to kill the HD when switching from Analog mode into HD. The "highs" in the audio are abit strange, and you are caught off guard a bit when it switches from analog to HD format.
If you are a DXer it's great. It gives you the callsign information immediately, and you can skip the audio quality, etc. Move on and find another DX station.
Night time reception is very good, as HD is pretty much impossible unless you are next to the transmitter. The signal rejection is very good from nearby 10khz strong transmitters.
Have fun,
It's cheap, runs hot, and lacks a battery to store memories, but, heck..it's CHEAP!
Have fun,
I am.

5 out of 5 stars Nicer than expected   September 1, 2008
This tuner was purchased for my husband so that he could listen to HD FM radio music and he is more pleased than he thought he would be. It works very well with wonderful quality sound.

5 out of 5 stars Sony HD AM-FM Receiver   August 28, 2008
Sony XDRF1HD HD Radio Tuner clearly exceeded my expectations! This receiver has an incredible tuner, especially by today's standards, when it comes to DX'ing AM or FM.

This receiver was able to pick up several long distant stations, and picked up a few more HD signals than my other unit.

You will not be disappointed!

5 out of 5 stars Excellent Upgrade on Tuner   August 26, 2008
I use this at work, and has really enhanced my listening. Several of my favorite stations were not strong enough in analog, but pulls in very well with digital. One annoying trait, when signal is weak, it just cuts out in digital, unlike in analog, you just receive a more signal that degrades with static.

5 out of 5 stars Great Tuner   August 25, 2008
Great Tuner. Receiving HD stations over 70 miles away. I really like the
low amount of processing on Hd compared to the squashed audio major market programmers think sound good. The radio has lived up to its claims.
