5 out of 5 stars Garmin Nuvi 200 - great value   November 22, 2008
Mark A. Miller
I chose the Garmin Nuvi 200 because I just wanted a basic GPS and didn't want to spend much on it. I guess I must be easily entertained because I have really enjoyed using it and it works flawlessly.
If you like a lot of bells and whistles this probably isn't for you as there are a number of other models out there that do a number of other things but I wanted basic turn by turn driving instructions and found the Nuvi 200 to do that quite well.

1 out of 5 stars Includes a Trojan Horse   November 19, 2008

Works about as well as any other brand on the market, but after using it for a year the unit is programmed to force a "Map Update Notice" screen to pop up each time the unit is turned on.. Very annoying because that screen stays on unless you acknowledge it by pushing "OK"! Who wnats to pay for a "tool" and then have it change its ease of use after a year. This "feature" was not part of the specs when I bought it!!!

3 out of 5 stars Garmin nuvi 200   November 17, 2008

it will get you there. it may sometimes tell you to turn an incorrect direction but it will alway re-direct you to the right location.

4 out of 5 stars The NUVI is great, Amazon not so great.   November 17, 2008
Richard Brandow (CENTRAL NEW JERSEY)
First off I really like my NUVI200 by Garmin. It has gotten me to where I needed to be. My only con, and it is more my problem then the units is the touch screen is too small for my fingers. I have big hands and I would sometime hit a button wrong but i have fixed this by takeing one of my kid's DS styless and use it on the screen. Works well. MY problem is with Amazons "free" shipping. It took almost 2 weeks to get my item. I was not in a hurry but it was sent in such a roundabout way that i will never use it again. I live in New Jersey and the item was sent from Las Vegas distribution center rather then one on the east coast. Then trucked to southern Cali before shipping across the country. My GPS needed a GPS.

1 out of 5 stars Watch out -- Map Updates cost $70 +   November 15, 2008

I purchased my Garmin in November 2007. In September 2008, the Garmin completely stopped functioning and directed me to purchase a map update on their site. I went to the site and discovered that I needed to first purchase a USB cable to connect the device. $20 and two weeks later, the cable arrived.

I logged onto the Garmin's website and went through an hour long product registration process to see if I qualified for a free map update. At the end of a frustrating hour long registration, I was told that I did not qualify for a free map update and got a 10% coupon for select products.

The map update for this device is $70 and the 10% discount did not apply to this update. Since my Garmin is useless without this update, I decided purchase it. The download took 4 hours on a high speed connection. If you purchase this device, beware that annual updates will cost almost as much as the device.
