Garmin nüvi 650 4.3-Inch Widescreen Portable GPS Navigator November 23, 2008 Ken Holsombeck (USA) Received Garmin and made an attempt to register on line. Was told the software was not up to date. Kind lady at customer service helped me register. She also informed me to call tech service to get help with software update and that I was eligible for a free map upgrade. Did not have time because I was leaving for a California trip the next morning. Found in California the law prohibits the unit on dash or windshield. Bought a new power cord from Radio Shack to be able to lay unit in seat (supplied power cord attaches to the windshield mount and the mount would not stay upright in the seat). Only confusion in CA was unit kept telling me to do a U-Turn at the hotel. Guided me through San Francisco like a dream. Upon return, I downloaded the new software with no problem but could not get the map update. Contacted tech service and they said lady was wrong to tell me I was eligible for free map upgrade and it would cost $70. I asked how do I return so I can buy a Tom Tom with latest maps. After some hassle, they agreed that I was indeed eligible and mailed me the latest map DVD. Spent the major part of an afternoon updating the unit. Had no difficulty with the upgrade except it took a long time (2-3 Hours). I made a trip to a rural part of SC and the unit found the road but not the correct address. Directed me about one mile away from my true destination. Unit is not perfect but I like it. I use the GPS but do not use all the other bells and whistles. I recommend it to anyone who travels a lot.
Garmin Nuvi 650 November 23, 2008 Robert P. Valle (Taunton Mass.) I have had other GPS devices that can't compare to this item, very easy to use and not confusing. I am very happy with this product.
Better than a TomTom November 23, 2008 K. Van Kooten (Iowa, USA) We also have a TomTom, and this beats it hands down. It is great! It has current maps and is very accurate. It has great software as well.
Gets you there! November 22, 2008 Traveler 1 (NY) Along with a map, Nuvi 650 helped us to navigate a roadtrip from Florida to New York. The only difficulty is it wanted to route us on backroads insted of the most direct way, But if you have a map and know about where you want to go you can bypass this. Did help with detours and city driving. Would buy it again.
Garmin 650 November 21, 2008 Rich The product is great. We used it on a trip and it was more than expected The only problem was when I received the unit it had the wrong cable for the car charging unit. If it wasn't for a friend who had the same unit and I was able to borrow his cable the unit would have been useless on the trip that I purchased it for. I am also a little disappointed with Amazon. I sent the wrong cable that was shipped with the unit back over two weeks ago and haven't received or even heard anything about being sent the correct cable.
