Product Description Dream Baby Hallway Security Gate A baby gate form Dream Baby is perfect for hallways, wide doorways and even stairs. It is easy to operate and the Hallway Security Gate features a one hand operation. The one hand operation allows the baby safety gate to opened easily with one hand while a parent is carrying a child or pet in the other hand or arm. The child safety gate also swings closed automatically which is a huge plus for parents in a hurry. It is important to rememberto measure the area in which the gate is going to be used so that a proper fitment can take place. The baby gate from Dream Baby also features optional extensions which are sold separately. It allows the gate to expand to fit an opening over 63 inches in width. It is perfect for wide area. This baby safety gate is the perfect remedy for keeping pets out of unwanted areas as well.

Latch easily defeated by toddlers March 11, 2010 B. Humphrey (Seattle, WA United States) Pros:
Easy to install
Attractive
Doors close by themselves
Cons:
Easy for a toddler to figure out
Latch mechanism on the cheap side
Not that sturdy with the extensions.
I purchased two of these and need to keep a baby and two toddlers out of an area. As previous reviewers stated, the install is a cinch. Doesn't require any tools and looks nice. It won't work for us though as the gate was easily defeated by my three year-old son after the 2nd day. The latch just isn't great even compared to other baby gates. True, it's easy to open and will close by itself which I love, but it feels fairly cheap to me and of course the fact that my son so easily opened it makes the gate a waste of money. I'll go back and inspect it some more but the thumb trigger takes very little pull to activate which makes it easy for small children which is of course exactly who you're trying to prevent from using it.
I don't think it's asking too much for this gate to keep out a three year-old. He can't open several of our gates. The one with the handle that you squeeze by gripping the bottom and top plate together is ergonomic (as opposed to thumb triggers) and takes more strength than a small child has. I wish there were more like it.
Super practical March 8, 2010 Isabel Alvarado Dees (Santa Cruz, CA) This gate is very easy to install. We set ours up at the bottom of our extra wide stairs. We did not need to screw gate into the wall, this gate is plenty secure pressure mounted. The extensions are not of equal width so the gate sits off center...not a big deal for us. If you are a stickler for symmetry you may want to consider ordering appropriate extension. The gate is attractive and easy to use, it does shut on its own. My teenage brother lives with us and I would rather the gate shut on its own then rely on a teenager to remember to shut the gate. This gate is tall enough to keep the cats from jumping over (don't know if that is because my fat indoor cats tried and failed or if they lack the motivation to jump over the gate). Now upstairs is cat hair free!!! Highly recommend this product.
BEWARE - THEY ARE VERY WIDE!!! March 4, 2010 Maryland Mom 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
These are fine gates, technically speaking, and they work well, but they are incredibly wide and don't fit ANY of our doorways!! Silly me, I didn't think to measure before ordering because I assumed that no one would sell a gate that was wider than the average doorway/hallway/stair, and so now I have to deal with shipping them back. So measure very carefully before ordering these!!!
Bought this, and two other brands at same time. February 19, 2010 Old Dude (Temple, TX) We recently bought a puppy and needed 3 gates to keep the dog on the kitchen tile floor during its house training period. Circumstances resulted in my buying 3 different brands from Amazon. There were significant differences observed that will be interesting to both child and dog owners. Rather than naming the others here I will focus on the Dreambaby.
Pros: Solid metal construction. Pretty easy to install, much like all similar brands. Twist a large knob in 4 places. Latch was easiest but not the most secure configuration out of 3 brands. Quite easy by simply lifting up on one end of the gate itself, but the strategic nose of a dog or a lucky maneuver by a child might allow it to escape. Also swings shut automatically. Has a lock to make it secure. Just don't forget to unlock and fall over the thing. Another brand was secure, but often took two hands to open latch. You had to put down anything you were carrying to wrestle with it. Still another brand was both easy and secure, and was my favorite.
Cons: Quite adequate except a slight concern that it is so easy for adult humans that it might be opened by a little creature if not locked. I like it for our puppy and for the wide doorway it fits.
Summary: Adequately made, easy to use, inexpensive, easy latch, good for small dog or child.
works but needs constant adjustment February 16, 2010 CPM (Limerick, PA) I got this gate for the top of our stairs. It fit well and by using the gate adapters, I didn't need the extensions at all. So measure carefully if you don't want to pay for more than you need. The gate works fine, but needs constant adjustment on the side screws to keep the gate closed properly. And we hardly ever have the gate closed, only when my daughter is allowed to roam the landing. I can't imagine how much worse it would be if we were opening and closing the gate constantly. The hands free gates are so much better. We use them constantly and so far have not required adjustment (unfortunately, they wouldn't work on the stairs) so I'd recommend them over this gate.
