4 out of 5 stars Good dogpack for larger dogs   July 4, 2008
I bought this dogpack for my basset/coonhound mix, in an effort to constructively tire him out (and also so I wouldn't have to carry his doggy bags all the time!).

Anyway, these are good high quality dogpacks. Excellent stitching and padding and the fabric (which is fairly water resistant) even kept my dog warm and dry in the snow and rain.

The only drawback we had to using this pack was that my dog had the standard basset "Dolly Parton" chest, so the chest strap didn't work very well on him. (I switched it to my beagle and it works beautifully on other, btw.) Other than that little foible, it's a great product.

I highly recommend this dogpack for high energy dogs and also for those all-day hiking trips--only fair to make the dog carry something! :-) (And please remember--the dog should never carry more than 10-20% of its own body weight: carrying more risks damaging its bones and joints.)

Happy trails!

5 out of 5 stars Reviews Helped   June 26, 2008
I read all the reviews on this item first and that is what made my decision to purchase it. I bought it for a black lab and followed everyone's comments about the size issue. It fit perfect. It is well made and I am very happy with this product.

5 out of 5 stars Happy dog - Works well   May 16, 2008
After extensive research I selected the Mountainsmith Dog Pack for my 85lb Golden Retriever. She took to the idea immediately and gets excited whenever I get it out. We just walk around the neighborhood for exercise and she carries two 1 liter bottles of water for mid-walk refreshment. Pack is well made, compared to others I reviewed. It stayes in place and has no issues for us. Thanks to Ceaser Milan (Dog Whisperer) for the excellent idea of using a dog pack for adding exercise weights and dog enjoyment.

5 out of 5 stars Perfect!   March 23, 2008

I listened to reviewers about the size to order and it was perfect! I ordered a medium for my 90lbs weimerweiner, 60lbs Boxer and 70lbs boxer mix. It fits them all and is awesome. We use it to tire them out more on walks. I look forward to camping with them at some point with it. There's lots of room in the pockets. Great buy!

I highly recommend a dog backpack for your dog. I use one on my own dog too! Dogs feel proud to wear it and it is a great tool for wearing out those high energy dogs. I am a dog trainer and freelance writer and I've written an insightful dog-training book that is featured on my unique, interactive Dog Training Web site at: www.webdogtrainer.com. The site allows dog owners to ask any question about their dog through personal, one-on-one live chat consultations. I have information about dogs wearing backpacks too! Check it out! www.webdogtrainer.com
