Good July 25, 2010 Sarah This book was very insightful and helped me and my partner with raising our puppy. We couldnt be happier with our puppy and his behaviour, and we have the book to thanks. It tells us the do's and dont's with rasing a puppy and it all makes sence and is easy to understand. The proof that this book was an excellent guide, is our dog.
Must have for Puppy Owners July 25, 2010 Mother (Atlanta, GA USA) I was apprehensive about getting a new dog. We had so much problems with our other dog in his early teen years when he came to us. I thought that having a dog from the beginning would allow me to instill in the dog what I wanted to see from it. I purchase this book with that in mind since I never had a puppy before. So far, this book was invaluable in helping me select the right dog for me. I would have surely come home with a Marley from the movie "Marley and Me" if it was not for this book. This book has also taught me a little more about the dog psychology and why they act that the way that they do, so I am able to read cues and train my puppy. I would have been in way over my head without this book. I am happy to say that I picked out an intelligent, trainable, and sweet pet that will surely grow to be a member of my family.
Cesar is Awesome July 25, 2010 AMC (Collegeville, PA) I wish I had bought this book before I even looked for a dog. The first few chapters tell you how to pick the perfect dog and where. Cesar is great, but I think the DVD would be better since my husband and kids wouldn't read the book and the entire family needs to be consistant
Excellent book July 21, 2010 S. Burgess (Tennessee, USA) I read this book in just hours. I've been wanting to get a new puppy, but I made mistakes with my current dog that I did not want to repeat. After buying a different Ceasar book to help with those issues, I did not hesitate to purchase this one to help me be prepared for a new addition to the family.
I was anti-Ceasar for so long, mainly due to putting too much faith in the opinions of other people. Once I purchased my first Ceasar book and put it to practice, I am now a believer!
Ceasar is not a trainer, which is great, because my dog knows more tricks and commands than he'll ever need to know. I didn't need a trainer. Our dog-related issues are not rooted in a lack of training. Ceasar's books helped me to realize that the fault did lie with me and my significant other, but that's not bad news. We can (and did) change. My dog's issues are not because of a flaw within him, which people were telling me was the case. This puppy raising book is going to help me so that I don't create problems in our new pup (when we get it), and then we won't have to fix issues.
DON'T get any of Ceasar's books if you are unwilling to accept blame, unwilling to stop blaming the dog, and unwilling to make tough changes.
DO get Ceasar's books if you're willing to take the blame off your dog, and put it where it belongs (you) and put forth the work to change things.
I'm telling you from experience that his methods work, and both of his books I've read so far have revealed things to me that make perfect sense, but that I just hadn't realized or thought of until he said it.
He has helped me so much that I will read ALL of his books.
Somewhat disappointing July 16, 2010 Diane Sultzbach (Boston, MA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I bought this book with the expectation of getting some of Cesar Milan's suggestions and advice for raising a puppy. Most of the book, however, was spent talking about choosing a dog...and more specifically, Cesar choosing a number of dogs that he planned on using as examples of training in the book. By the time he was done talking about the dogs he chose..and the whys and why nots of the choices, the book was more than half over.
When he finally got around to talking about specific issues in puppy training, he only gave a page or two...sometimes only a paragraph or two...of suggestions and information. The information he gave was good, but there was not nearly enough of it.
I have found the same problem when reading Cesar Milan's magazine...lots of information about what he's doing, very little usable information about training dogs.
