Drinkwell Platinum March 14, 2010 Teri Wellon I like this fountain and it certainly does encourage my dog to drink more water. The only reason I do not like it is that it needs to be cleaned fairly frequently or the motor gets plugged with hair even with the new filter. I do not find it hard to clean, so I still think it deserves 4 stars.
Worth the price! March 13, 2010 Mark Matecny This fountain is a great addition to any cat household. I feel that its built well, and i have had it for a few mounths now, and have yet to expirence any problems with it... However, i have 2 cats, one of which started drinking out of this fountain around 3 weeks after i got it!~ the other still wont go near it... Which worries me, since i no longer provide stale bowl water, so she drinks little to NO water--please take into consideration that she eats alot of wet food.
I saw a few of the reviews on here stating how difficult this fountain is to take apart and put together, and i'll admit that it is time consuming, but im 13, and if i can do it, trust me; SO CAN YOU!
*HELPFUL TIP* if your cats seem scared of this at first( not unusual)try turning the fountain off and let the cats smell the water and fountain WITHOUT the added humm of the motor.
I am very proud to own this, and still relish the feeling of seeing the looks on peoples faces when they take in this fountain. With proper maintanence and care, this will last many great years!~ HIGHLY recommended! :)
Over a year and still running great. March 10, 2010 A. Hoxie (NH) I have had this Drinkwell fountain for over a year and it's still running great! I like it because it doesn't take a lot of maintenance like I thought it might. I clean the bowl out maybe once a week or whenever I notice hair or food in it. I give it a good scrub once every other month and usually it doesn't even need it!The motor does benefit from the hair being removed or it will get sluggish! Some people commented that it needs to be cleaned very frequently but I haven't found that. I have 2 male cats and they drink out of it constantly and I've had no problems. My cats took to drinking out of the fountain very quickly and seem to really enjoy it!
Don't buy the recommended cleaning tools, you won't need them! I purchased them and they are still in their package.
Great for multiple pets March 8, 2010 Alanna Almgren (Issaquah, WA United States) I purchased this fountain for my kitten. It is very large and difficult to clean all the parts. The pump was continually slimy and after two days of being cleaned, I had to clean the fountain again. Since I use bottled water, this can get expensive. My kitty didn't really care for this fountain and tried to avoid the running water that would splash his head, he loves playing in water, but not having the flow go into his head. The fountain is quite loud and should be put somewhere where you can't hear it. Cleaning the fountain was an hour long process. If you have multiple pets in the home, it makes sense to have a larger fountain, but for just one kitty, it is too big and doesn't justify the cleaning or water waste from having to clean it every two days.
Hits the Spot Saber March 3, 2010 Scott A. Shaub (Lititz, Pa) The water system is very well designed; our cat loves to drink from it. I have been changing the water and cleaning the Drinkwell Platinum Pet Fountain every week. We have a Bengal cat that loves to play in the water and used to come running every time he heard the sink faucet running. Now he has his very own little area to get fresh water and paw at the water stream, he's cute to watch. Hits the Spot Saber!
