 Works well, but hard to clean and the filters are a mess March 16, 2010

The basic function of this product is to create moving water for finicky cats... and it does this quite well. However, the design leaves a lot to be desired when it comes to cleaning. To clean it, you have to complete disassemble the entire thing. With all the plastic pieces, it's just a matter of time before something breaks. Second, the filters may be a scam. They quickly form a rather disgusting gel-like substance that means you need to dispose quickly. Changing them every two weeks as recommended would make the cost of ownership comparable to Honda Accord. Also, I'm not convinced that the filters aren't what's causing the water to get so greasy so quickly.
Solution - skip the filters and used filtered water. Since abandoning the filters, the things runs better, the cats like it better and it doesn't get a dirty as quickly.
I'm shocked there isn't something better on the market, but this looks to be top of the line. All you inventors out there, get to work!

I have four cats and I wanted a fountain that would give them plenty of space to gather around. The Drinkwell 360 does that beautifully. An unexpected bonus is that I find the sound of flowing water to be very soothing.
My only quibble is that the cartridges are a little pricy. I would recommend that anyone purchasing this unit also purchase the cleaning kit. It will make cleanup much easier. Also, if you have only one or two cats, you can do nicely with one of Drinkwell's smaller fountain.
All around, a fine product.

What do you say about water filters?
Unlike some water filtration systems this is really easy to change.
Each filter lasts about 2-3 weeks as long as the cats are not rating and drinking in the same place.
When it was next to the food the filter would block in about a week.

I would love to review this product, however, I'M STILL WAITING FOR IT! I sent back my incorrect order and have TWICE asked for the correct filters, but as of this writing, nothing. Since there is no phone number anywhere on the website, I figured I try this. Maybe someone can finaly complete my order.
