Not impressed March 17, 2010 June August I love my Petmate Fresh Flow fountain. My cat will drink from it in my sight as opposed to a bowl of water which I could never catch her at using. The older filters with the wires and the tag of "this way up" were very good - would definitely catch cat hair and other unsavories.
These filters, however, are horrible.
They're thin (which is ok) and the edges that slide into the grooves are even thinner. This means that some water can slip around the sides unfiltered and that means other things can too. Not good.
They collect bacteria really quickly. In my area, there's a pink bacterial film that accumulates on containers that hold water. Deep cleaning of the fountain is necessary at least every week (hydrogen peroxide works well). Each deep cleaning time, I am disgusted by how slimy the filter has gotten. The older filters don't do this.
I will be going back to the older filters.
Much better than the old type. March 12, 2010 P. Gray (Austin, Tx) I am so glad they upgraded to a new design from their old wire-bound square filters. This products resembles two thick tea bags that have not been separated. They slide into the filter spot easily with no forcing or bending. The tag that says 'top' has also been removed from this design - another plus as I am able to flip the filter over and use the opposite side and end before throwing it away.
Great replacement at a great price March 6, 2010 Eimajine Not much to say, except these work as well as the more expensive ones and I save a bundle.
Weak replacements February 11, 2010 D. Adamski 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
These filter replacements do not have the same hard plastic skeleton that the other brands do. These have a weaker cardboard skeleton. I was surprised to find the Petmate name-brand filters to be lesser in quality than the off-brand options in the local pet stores. These work, just not for long.
Waste of Money February 1, 2010 Kim Henderson (Pineville, LA United States) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
AWFUL PRODUCT! WASTE OF YOUR MONEY!! I have 4 large dogs and three cats. I have had 4 fountains in my home for many years, and had to change the orginial filters once every two weeks. This is due to the amount of animals I have. I ordered this filter thinking it was the orginial filter. Do not waste your time. I have to change this filer once every two days or it gets clogged and backs up the water flow. I would be better off using a coffee filter.
