Garth Stein's "The Art Of Racing In The Rain" is by far and away one of the most wonderful books I've read in a long, long time. I literally could not put it down, finishing it in less than 24 hours. It's a beautiful, thought provoking story, told with humor, compassion and insight. Thank you for this novel, Garth Stein!

An excellent book. I had modest expectations, but after 10 pages, I "got it" and was hooked. Dog owner or not, race fan or not, if you are a parent, a spouse, a friend, or if you have parents, I recommend you read this book. You will relate to it and be touched by it. It's funny, poignant, philosophical, thought provoking and of course, entertaining. Kudos to Mr. Stein for a well crafted, intricately woven piece of literature.
What a GREAT book March 10, 2010

I love this book. What an incredibly beautiful story told thru the eyes of the family dog. Like Enzo, I too believe that your family pet is just that -- your FAMILY and just one chromosome short of being human. This book has made me cry and laugh and warms my heart. Did I say, I love it?

Publishers Weekly calls it sentimental. What's with them?
The Art of Racing in the Rain was one of the most remarkable books I've ever read...and I've read a lot. If I had to liken it to another book in print, I'd compare it to Jonathan Livingston Seagull. It had that much of an impact on me. Because I'm a dog lover? Because I love a good "feeling"?
This is a singularly brilliant book. I don't believe in giving away the story in a review. Besides, others will do that. I just want to say that the plot moves forward smoothly--no slow-downs or unnecessary wordiness. The downward spiral that Denny experiences (Publishers Weekly's assessment aside) was believable. I once experienced a similar down time. His courage in resolving his problems was inspiring. To get technical, the dialogue was believable, the characters fully developed, the plot engaging, and the lesson profound. It will appeal to fans of Wayne Dyer, The Secret, Abraham-Hicks, and others of the same ilk.
You're doing yourself a disservice if you don't read it. I'm only sorry I didn't write it. Thank you, Garth Stein, for sharing this amazing story with us.

I read a lot of books, about 20 per year. This is one of the most enjoyable books I have ever read; so much so, that I am writing my first review right now. Being a dog lover, a friend gave me this book. Enzo, the dog narrator, is loveable and logical and entertaining, in his observations of humankind. I'll be reading the other books by Stein.
