Product Description
Where does a story truly begin? In life, there are seldom clear-cut beginnings, those moments when we can, in looking back, say that everything started. I'm not sure why I feel compelled to tell my story in the first place. What can be achieved by unearthing the past? But I know I must try to tell it, if for no other reason than to finally put this all behind me. This is, above all, a love story, and like so many love stories, it is rooted in tragedy. At the same time, it is also a story of forgiveness. And it is my story as well. I, too, played a role in all that happened -From A BEND IN THE ROAD Miles Ryan's life seemed to end the day his wife was killed in a hit-and-run accident two years ago. As deputy sheriff of New Bern, North Carolina, he not only grieves for her and worries about their young son Jonah but longs to bring the unknown driver to justice. Then Miles meets Sarah Andrews, Jonah's second-grade teacher. A young woman recovering from a difficult divorce, Sarah moved to New Bern hoping to start over. Tentatively, Miles and Sarah reach out to each other....soon they are falling in love. But what neither realizes is that they are also bound together by a shocking secret, one that will force them to reexamine everything they believe inincluding their love.

5 out of 5 stars Sparks at his best!   January 6, 2009
M. Herlong (Aiken, SC)
I loved this book! I'm an avid reader and have read the majority of Sparks' books, and this is BY FAR my favorite of his. The characters are so appealing and leave you wanting more. Beware though, it's a tear-jerker...but has a happy ending. :)

4 out of 5 stars Great Book but Needed More On Ending...........   December 31, 2008
William J. Warner III (Loveland, Co)
Well I am a huge Nicholas Sparks reader and I absolutely love all of his books that I have read. This one is no exception, it had all the normal Sparks patterns with its ups and downs, drama, and tragedy. I really like the way this book was written especially with the narration that was a unique but good addition to this book and it gave you a big perspective of what the person was thinking and feeling about what had happened. The only thing that I didn't like too much was the very short ending, it didn't really tell you what happened to everyone after all was said and done. But other then that this was a Sparks classic. If you enjoy alot of drama then this is the book for you.

5 out of 5 stars ONE OF HIS BEST!!!!!!!!!   November 6, 2008
L. G. Fontenot (Adkins, TX United States)
First of all let me say that I won't tell you the story like so many do on here.....that ruins the whole book, so I don't read reviews. I will say that you will love this one. It contains so many elements such as suspense, romance, children, and family. I have read 12 of Nicholas Sparks books including this one which I couldn't put down, and read it in 3 hours. You will cry, get mad, and say YESSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!! I highly recommend this book for your library.

This is a tear jerker.

Miles Ryan, deputy sheriff of a small town, loses his wife by a hit and run driver. Miles is devastated and is left to raise his son - alone. Miles tries to find the killer, but is unsuccessful, leaving him saddened and disappointed in himself as a person and as deputy sheriff.

Jonah - Miles' son starts having trouble at school. His teacher, Sarah, tries to help Jonah and Sarah brings a new fire into Miles. After two years of living with the thought that his world is shattered with no future, he and Sarah begin a heavy romance. We also get to look into the mind of the hit and run driver. But Miles world is not perfect anymore when an amazing coincidence is revealed.
