Editorial Reviews:

Product Description
At 29, Julie Barenson is too young to give up on love. Four years after her husband's tragic death, she is finally ready to risk giving her heart to someone again. But to whom? Should it be Richard Franklin, who is handsome and sophisticated and treats her like a queen, or Mike Harris, who is Julie's best friend in the world, though not as debonair? Now, with a decision that should bring her more happiness than she's had in years, Julie's life is about to become a living nightmare, as one man's jealousy spins into a deadly obsession.

3 out of 5 stars The Guardian   November 16, 2008
Avid Reader
The GuardianHardback by Nicholas Sparks
Did not keep my interest so took longer to read than usual for me.

4 out of 5 stars too sad and depressing   October 23, 2008
L. G. Fontenot (Adkins, TX United States)
I gave this book 4 stars because of the very ending. It is a great novel as far as suspense, love, and a sweet dog named Singer(The Grardian). I love the way Nicholas Sparks writes and I should have known what the ending would be, but I kept hoping this one would end good, and it could have, and still been an excellent book. I just can't read anymore of these sad books of his that leave me feeling depressed and sad. Needless to say this one was most depressing of them all. I am still crying for Singer.

5 out of 5 stars Sparks At His Best!   October 20, 2008
William J. Warner III (Loveland, Co)
I have to say I own every Nicholas Sparks book he has every written and I must say most authors are only good at writing what they are known for, Stephen King/Horrors, Jonathan Kellerman/Thrillers, and I always thought Nicholas Sparks/Love Stories. But after reading "The Guardian" I was proven wrong. I was shocked at how great he wrote this book. I thought it wouldn't be as good as his others with just love stories. But boy was I proven wrong. He is just as good at writing thrillers as he is with his love stories. He does it so well I just couldn't stop reading it and there are some definite parts that will make the hair on the back of your neck stand up and make you want to look outside to see if someone is out there. So take this review from a advid Sparks reader and go out and get this book it will not dissapoint you in the least, It will keep you reading for sure.

5 out of 5 stars Love goes first, thriller - second   August 18, 2008
Viktorija (Vilnius, Lithuania)
I've never read anything by this author before, but after watching a movie called "The Notebook", I thought that this writer is worth my attention. At first, I kind of expected to get some complicated love story with characters wandering back and forth with their decisions, but later on I got really satisfied to find out thriller included into the story. As I was a little bit tired at that time of reading "simple" love stories, this book provided me exactly what I needed: some action intertwined into the love story.
