Product Description
This memorable book by one of our finest writers chronicles two passions: one for a dog named "Blue," another for the "guns of a lifetime." "Blue and Some Other Dogs" is a brilliant memoir about Graves' Basque-Australian sheep dog. "Guns of a Lifetime" tells the stories related to the guns this octogenarian Texan has owned, beginning with a "rusted and cylinderless" revolver. "So here are the stories," Graves writes. "They are not all ‘nice’ tales in contemporary terms. Political correctness, as presently defined, may be perpetrated here and there, though I hope no parts will seem like the maunderings of a Deep South redneck. But if they do, the hell with it. I am too old to fret about such matters." It’s delightful writing from a treasure of a writer.

Dogs and Guns, whats not to love? December 19, 2007 Floyd Jackson (Oklahoma City, OK) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
As evident by the title, this book recounts both the dogs and guns of John Graves. Mr Graves talks about Blue, a crossbred Basque-Australian sheepdog, in such a loving manner that you feel you know the dog when you are done reading. The writing in this book is honest, and heartfelt. It's a quick, fun read, that you should certainly pick up
a great surprise May 28, 2007 charlene loveless (dallas, texas) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
My husband and my sons love dogs and guns. But I've never had much interest in either of them. Until now. This is a wonderful book and I expect to give many copies out as gifts to all the folk I know who have dogs and an interest in guns. --CL
