Product Description
"We're talking cute, but with a Calvin and Hobbes-ian twist." --Mike Wilson, features editor, St. Petersburg Times

In the spirit of Snoopy and Charlie Brown, or Calvin and Hobbes, please welcome Sophie and Doug.

Dog Eat Doug is the cartooning creation of Brian Anderson that follows the daily exploits of Sophie, a cheese-loving chocolate Lab with a nose for the nuances of sarcasm and irony, and baby Doug, a healthy, happy newborn with no concept of jealousy and a limitless curiosity.

Together, this dynamic duo adjusts to sharing the spotlight, the toys, and the affections of Mom and Dad, while exploring nature and its majesty, the couch and its cushions, and the cookie jar and its contents.

As the first Dog Eat Doug collection, this book features 43 weeks' worth of strips beginning with the cartoon's 2005 debut.

5 out of 5 stars WONDERFUL BOOK!   November 19, 2008
Animal lover (Rockton, IL United States)
I loved the humor and drawing style of this book. A wonderful collection of the Dog Eat Doug comic strip, very funny. The strips characters antics ring true for anyone who has ever had a baby, a puppy, or both. It's as if the artist has truly gotten into the minds of a baby and a puppy and how they see the world around them. A must have for fans of the strip, or anyone who loves puppies, babies, or just plain ol' good humor!

5 out of 5 stars Buy an extra copy for your newspaper editor   October 2, 2008

I have been a fan of Dog Eat Doug for pretty much the entire time it has been online. Brian Anderson has created two iconic characters in Doug and Sophie. Sometimes the humor is laugh out loud, sometimes it gives you a subtle chuckle but in all cases the strip will give you a smile. A new reader will have an instant connection to these lovable guys. You can so influences from Peanuts as well as Calvin and Hobbes.

I really like seeing the strips I have come to love in full color. That was a wonderful touch that makes owning this collection of DeD strips important for every fan.

I recommend that every fan of DeD buy an extra copy of this and send it to their local newspaper editor and request that they begin to carry DeD on the comics page.

5 out of 5 stars tickles your funny bone and warms your heart   September 30, 2008

For anyone who has ever looked at your furry friend and thought "I wonder what they are thinking", "Dog Eat Doug" confirms your deepest suspicions, while tickling your funny bone and warming your heart. I am absolutely convinced that Brian Anderson has a psychic connection with my dog, BeBop, and I look forward each day to Sophie's and Doug's adventures. I know that BeBop thinks he is meant for grander things than barking at squirrels and napping in the sun. It's so much fun to live vicariously through Sophie's never ending cheese-quest, or her beliefs that she is the most fearsome "gator shark". The whimsical artwork coupled with a smartly written strip, (with plenty of pop culture references added for fun), has made Dog Eat Doug my favorite daily comic strip, and I look forward to many more to come.

5 out of 5 stars Encapsulates the whole dog/baby experience   September 29, 2008
E. Frazier (Colorado, US)
Dog Eat Doug is a wonderfully drawn strip that encapsulates the whole dog/baby experience and keeps me laughing on a daily basis. I was introduced to the strip by a friend after we had our baby, and they knew that we were enjoying the challenges of balancing our new baby with the furry "baby" that had been with us for years. Every strip gives wonderful hidden insight into what's going on in the world that only extends to two feet above the carpet. I brought this book home and left it on the dining room table, and two days later my husband was showing me pages he had bookmarked so we could laugh over the common experiences. A great strip, with a great sense of humor, and wonderful selections in this collection.

5 out of 5 stars It fills my Calvin and Hobbes craving   September 27, 2008

Having been given a link by one GolfWidow, I started reading the comics on a regular basis. I've been in withdrawal for a strip that made me laugh in the right way since Calvin and Hobbes sledded down that hill... this fills it for me. The interaction is great, the humour is multi-layered, and the artwork is sublime in it's simplicity. The book is lagniappe.

Thank you for creating these two for us to follow...
