Editorial Reviews:

Description
When it comes to dog training, recent developments have improved the lot of our canine companions dramatically. Since the 1990's a kinder, more reward-based approach has replaced the more severe training methods, such as the choke chain, that were once acceptable punishments for doggy misdemeanors.

One of the greatest exponents of this new approach to dog training was John Fisher, a pet behavior counselor, who really understood what made even the most uncontrollable dog tick. With such books as Why Does My Dog? and Think Dog! he encouraged owners to see their training techniques from the dog's point of view, and the results were phenomenally successful.

This program has been designed to bring you the very best of John Fisher's dog training methods, to help you establish a good relationship with your dog from day one. Beginning with puppies, selecting the right breed for your lifestyle and early socialization. The program will then take you through every aspect of pet dog care, helping you to avoid the most common problems that arise. Prevention truly is better than cure, and Dog Training The John Fisher Way provides everything that you need to know to enjoy life with your dog to the fullest.

YOU WILL LEARN...

-What Makes Your Dog Tick?
-How To View Training From Your Dog's Point Of View
-How To Establish A Great Relationship With Your Pooch, from Day One
-How To Select The Right Breed For You
...And much more

2 out of 5 stars Not that great   December 28, 2008
Sally Kelley (KS)
I was disappointed with this DVD. I didn't like it at all, poor methods of dog training, nothing I didn't already know.

2 out of 5 stars Not a "training" video, but some useful info if you are just starting in dogs   July 8, 2008
Deena M. Morando (Sandy, OR USA)
Wow; I sure was expecting better than this! I mean no disrespect to the late Mr Fisher; actually, that is not a put down to him since HE did not produce this tape. It was made after his death, and one would think that someone who he'd mentored could have actually SHOWED the "John Fisher Method" so often referred to. But, alas, no one does. There is some good information on general dog behavior, choosing a breed, etc. So if you're just getting into dogs or considering getting a dog, it is definitely worthwhile. But if you are looking for a practical Dog Training video, one to show you how to teach your dog, this is not it.

1 out of 5 stars A Dog of a DVD   March 4, 2007
Marcus Peacock (Washington, DC United States)
I have watched several dog training DVDs and this clearly falls dead last. The video bears little connection to the narrative so you might as well consider it a book on tape. Even then, it will not provide you much practical information on how to train your dog. With the plethora of other options out there, even if they are a bit more expensive, it is worth spending a little more to get something useful.

1 out of 5 stars Not worth it   October 3, 2005

Boring! All this time is spent during the DVD talking about the John Fisher technique, but not really showing you anything specific. Lots of great video shots of dogs romping about with their owners and shots of classes being conducted, all being voiced over about the 'great john fisher technique'. Who cares! I didn't order the video so that I could go look for a trainer who trains with this technique, I ordered it so that I could train my own dog. So little instructional information was given and the video was so boring, me and my dogs fell asleep watching it. What a waste!

5 out of 5 stars John Fisher's wisdom in different situations.   August 22, 2005

It's a great resource, covering selecting a breed of dog, tips related to training, and information related to dog behavior. It shows footage of dogs in different situations and a little of John Fisher but the narrator often talked over him. The final chapter, chapter 8, was an interesting recital of a personal experience John Fisher had with a challenging dog and how he handled it. This DVD is an overview and not heavily focused on oral commands.
