This animated feature-length life of Jesus boasts a stellar pedigree. Originally a BBC: Wales production, it showcases the voices of some of Britain's finest actors in any medium: Ralph Fiennes as a brooding and humble Jesus, Miranda Richardson as Mary Magdalene, Richard E. Grant as John the Baptist, and David Thewlis as Judas. The lovely, flute-heavy score is by Oscar winner Anne Dudley (The Full Monty). And clearly a lot of expense has gone into the Claymation-like animation. But while it's hard to find fault with the rendering of this familiar story--it's respectful and definitely done, you might say, by the Book--it would have been nice if there had been a tad more joy, if it walked a bit lighter in its sandals. As it is, all the characters seem consistently subdued, whether they're expressing angst, rage, terror, or bliss--none of which is helped by the figures' blank-eyed stares (if animators are becoming ever more sophisticated, why can't they get rid of those creepy Charlie McCarthy gazes once and for all?). Still, the weight of having such formidable actors play these familiar roles lends the production a certain credibility, and parents looking for good religious videos that won't insult their kids' intelligence will be thrilled. --Anne Hurley

1 out of 5 stars Sadly I have to give this a very poor rating   August 8, 2008
I loved this movie, man. However I can't give it anything higher than a single star. It could have been great but for one very important issue. The Centurion who is present when the earthquake occurred during Christ's crucifixion states "Truly this was A Son of God!" WRONG! Read the Bible my friends, the Centurion said: Matthew 27:54 "Truly this was THE Son of God!''

Whether this was simply a misspoken or flubbed line, some slack oversight by the writer, or an intentional, calculated misrepresentation of the Word of God designed to throw confusion into the mind of the viewer.. I don't know. If I had been working on this project and I'm sure this movie was proof-edited before being released, I would have caught that. Man, when that scene came up it literally hit me like a ton of bricks, man. Did he just say "A Son of God?" NO, NO Please, I hope I didn't hear it correctly. I had to play it again just to make sure... Yes, they screwed it up, man. Shame. Other than that, I REALLY, REALLY liked this movie. I wanted to love it, to give it honor and stuff you know. But that one glaring little bit just derailed the whole love affair I was having with this flick, man. I thank God for movies about Jesus, man. I love the Lord and I want His Words to be remembered accurately. This is not a small issue in my opinion.. Of all the lines, of all the scripture that they could have tweaked, THIS is not one that should have been touched. Don't mess with the Personage of Jesus, man. I thank God for showing me the truth in these matters. I share them with you. THANKS GOD! (Spoken while pointing both index fingers toward the Heavens!)

4 out of 5 stars The miracle maker - special edition   June 26, 2008
This movie is very good. I enjoyed watching it with my children. What I especially like about it is that it is 90 mins long so I get a good time to sit and enjoy with my family and of course I get my moneys' worth. A lot of animated movies are just 30 mins long and cost the same or more than other animated movies twice as long. This I believe is a disadvantage to the customer.

5 out of 5 stars The Miraclemaker   April 28, 2008
I enjoyed this movie and so did my children. They could barely take their eyes off the screen they thought it was so interesting. I was really happy with it.

5 out of 5 stars My Review Of The Miracle Maker   April 2, 2008
This animated story of Jesus is done in clay-mation, a classic form of animation that can be best for this movie. It tells about Jesus and his teachings and travels all over Israel healing the sick and comfort the sorrowful. It also shows Jesus' death and resurrection that may be a little scary for little children. Ralph Fiennes does a wonderful job providing the voice of the Son of God. This film is perfect for Christmas and Easter and also perfect for Sunday School at church.

4 out of 5 stars Suprisingly strong story with unique claymation format   March 10, 2008

A "claymation" Jesus? How's that going to work? Surprisingly well! While artistic license is taken (if you're looking for the real deal, read the New Testament), this ranks up there with films like Franco Zeffirelli's 1977 "Jesus of Nazareth" (seriously!). Caution to parents with young children: it has some very intense scenes and should defintely be viewed by parents FIRST. Well done, it was first shown on ABC Sunday night of Easter several years ago.
