5 out of 5 stars Great help for a beginner   November 16, 2008
T. Goodman
I have always been curious as to why someone would want to grind coffee beans rather than buy hem ground. A friend brewed me a cup from fesh ground beans and I was hooked but had no idea of how to grind the beans. This grinder was so easy to use, explained all I needed to know and now I am buying gourmet coffee on Amozon. Great value for the cost.

4 out of 5 stars My Mr Coffee, coffee bean grinder.   September 7, 2008

This is the 3rd coffee grinder I have gone through in the past year since I started grinding my own coffee beans. With the first 2 grinders the motors failed, both within a very short period of time. Up to this point My Mr Coffee grinder has worked very well. It is a lot quieter then the other two and it seems I get a better grind. It must be because this grinder offers 3 different settings for grinding. I get a more consistent grind with this grinder especially in the morning when I've forgotten tho grind my coffee beans he night before. Not real impressed with the Chamber maid cleaning system, although I get less waste, for me that is not a big issue. I think I have had this grinder for about 5 months without any break downs. I still need more time to say this product is absolutely superior over the other two,it certainly was less expensive of the three grinders. I also think that the white and black one should have been offered for the same price.

1 out of 5 stars Messy and Cumbersome   August 19, 2008

The grinder cleaner arms are useless - in fact, not only do they not keep the bowl clean, they require additional work to get them clean too.

The flip top lid is useless - unless you like static electric charged coffee grounds flung over your counter.

The electrical cord is useless - it is so short it won't even reach from the outlet to the edge of the counter.

The grinder timer is useless - you still have to hold the switch on to make it operate - not that it's a big woo, but if there are going to be bells and whistles for a timer - at least make it stop on it's own.

The cover and bowl mechanisim is very cumbersome to reassemble.

All in all - the grinder is not worth having.

I returned mine.

2 out of 5 stars Too many plastic parts - not good for making espresso.   August 18, 2008

This grinder tries to do a bunch of fancy stuff - i.e., time how long to grind your coffee. But if you can't determine this by sound alone - you haven't ground much coffee.
It has a bunch of plastic parts that make up the bowl. There's the button piece which sits within a lid on a plastic hinge (that will soon break I'm sure). This is attached to the top part that makes the "chambermaid" that consists of some thin plastic pieces that will soon break. All of this comes apart at unexpected times from the lower part of the bowl, which is also plastic.

The bowl is very big and the lid is cumbersome, so it's hard to get the grounds to pour into my espresso machines holder. Mostly I end up with grounds all over the place. The chamber maid just traps grounds inside the bowl. Also the chambermaid and the odd lid prevent me from using a scoop to get the grounds out.

To be fair, this might work great for a large coffee maker and if you only use the medium or coarse grind settings - but I still hate all of the plastic parts.

I much prefer a simple grinder with a lid that sits into a metal grinder. But if you like doodads, have a big filter bowl, and want the grinder to figure out how long to grind, this one would be fine.

If you're making espresso, skip it.

4 out of 5 stars Nice grinder for the money.   August 1, 2008

It's inexpensive, efficient, and seems to be well made. The "Chamber Maid" system seems to me a bit gimmicky -- it doesn't seem to do anything that could be done with a couple of taps on the side of the bowl. In fact - I usually do that instead. I don't miss the feature, so I don't consider it a bad point that it doesn't really seem to be effective.

It grinds quickly and seems to do it pretty evenly, too. It is definitely loud though. Being the first one up in the morning, the coffee making is my job. Since access to our garage is through the kitchen, I just step out into the garage and run the grinder so I don't wake anyone up.
