A week after my two kids each received one of these for Christmas we decided to try 'em out! My daughters promptly broke as we loaded batteries into hers. The metal rod near the base actually snapped off. We did not put undo preasure on the metal rod either so I figure it was defective. I've asked Amazon if I can process an exchange even though it's outside of 30 days so I'll be anxious to see how they respond. The other one worked fine. Let's face it... this is more a novelty item than a practical tool but in addition to being fun it works very well (as long as you don't get one suffering from metal fatigue).
