the garmin nuvi 760 is a decent gps system...my first one as well. it's sleek and stylish, it comes loaded with up to the minute mapping...it's really helped me get to where i need to go quite easily...and it was priced right fr amazon.com...the only cons i have:
-the battery runs low kind of quickly...if you don't have someone in the car with you and it runs low, you have to pull over to plug the lighter adapter in...
-the dashboard mounting disc doesn't stick well enough to the dash surface...i had to buy special 3M double sided adhesive squares (works great!)
-the nav system sometimes takes you on longer routes (this was evident when i knew where i was going but garmin was telling me to take back roads most of the time vs a major highway...this shouldn't scare you away, it's not all the time...and if you know where you're going, why use the gps, right?!)

it was given as a Christmas pres to my parents. They really like it except for the static that they are hearing when they drive. They do not like hearing the noise. Want to know if they are doing something wrong. I purchased it for the many features it offered.
Hope they do not return it.

I was excited to get this GPS and did a lot of research on GPS's. I am a little disappointed in a few things. It didn't come with any case or cover to protect it so I had to buy one. To test it I put in places I knew how to get to and it always takes me the long way around without giving me any options for shortest route!! Even to or from going home it takes me miles out of the way. Also mispronounces major streets i.e. SamMAMish is pronounced as SaMANish...gets irritating after a while. Gets you there eventually, but just not on the shortest or fastest route. The screen is nice, easy to use and enter information. Great for the GPS function January 8, 2009
Loves technology when it works
I have enjoyed this GPS since the day I received it. It is accurate and fast. My only caution is to buy the GPS for its main function and not spend the extra $$ for the MP3 player and Bluetooth. Both functions work, but for as loud as I have to set the volume, the speakers are grainy. However, if you find it on an amazing sale like I did, go for it.

Can't say enough good things about this. It's so user friendly and "recalculates" pretty quick if you make a wrong turn.
If there must be a "down" side, in my opinion it's pretty small. When you first turn it on, it takes quite a while (about 2-3 minutes) to load up and start. But once it doesn, it the best.
