1 out of 5 stars Bad design !PLUS! the wrong solution to the dead battery problem   July 28, 2008
Muxie Duxer (New York, NY USA)

This product is a big disappointment. I bought one of these and took it back because of the constant beeping noise it made as it tried to recharge. The second one charged OK twice over a few months and then started making the same beeping noise. There is something very wrong with the design here.

Don't kid yourself, or your wife, or your daughter, or your mother: even when working perfectly this is a pretty high-risk solution to the problem of a dead battery. If the battery ends up being very dead, or is worn out, or is in very cold conditions, it just isn't possible to trickle enough additional charge into it in 15-20 minutes to start an engine. You need to use one of those very large power supplies capable of starting a car by themselves, by bypassing your existing battery. Or use a set of jumper cables and another car--it isn't very difficult, it's much faster, and more reliably successful.

Now, IF you get one of these Simple Starts that charges correctly, it would do OK as a power source for 12 volt devices like cellphone chargers and portable DVD players. But that's it. Is it worth the weight?

Please note that virtually every reviewer who has anything nice to say about it has a single review to their name. I presume they are all relatives of Mr. Black or Mr. Decker.

purchased this item and needed to charge a car battery about 3 weeks later but the unit didn't work. returned it for replacement and that unit also did not work. the charger sounds great in concept, nice design and features, easy to use buttons and controls but all of this won't get you moving when your car battery is dead. it has been a long time since i have purchased an item that performed so badly. didn't even bother returning the second unit - i have wasted enought time with this useless device.

1 out of 5 stars Crappiest product I ever bought   July 13, 2008

I bought this battery charger and then I used it to start up one of my cars. I followed the instructions to the last word and it wouldn't work at all. The old fashion one seems to do a better job. So I advice anyone not to buy this thing.

I fully charged it and also put the ignition to ACC, but after the 15 minutes, I still couldnt start my car. My cockpit light got a little brighter. That is all. Dont buy it.

1 out of 5 stars Did not work from the start   July 10, 2008

I bought this item about a year ago and at first, I thought that my car lighter was not working but it is working, it's this battery booster that is not doing its job. Even after I leave it to charge for a full day, when it is needed, it still does not do the work. To think that at the time I bought it I paid about $54 plus shipping and handling to be delivered on a saturday but it did not work. I wish I can return it.
