2 out of 5 stars It works... but then it doesn't work   November 15, 2008
David J. Kwietnewski
This bark collar works really well on my dog. It is a must have. BUT, the first one we purchased lasted about 16 months (not bad, I thought, I'll just buy a new one). I recently purchased a second collar and it leaked all over my dog on day one. Amazon was veary helpfull and they are replacing it for free. I hope this third collar is the one.

2 out of 5 stars Works Great but Major Flaw   November 11, 2008
A. Tramonte (Houston, TX)
Initially we were ecstatic over this collar. When the first burst of citronella bloomed after our dachshund cut loose barking we all cheered...it stopped him immediately. Within one day the barking was completely controlled. He even refrained from barking when the collar was turned off - he must really hate the smell of citronella. We also got a sort of two for one special...when our other dachsund barked while standing next to the one wearing the collar, it went off. It will also discharge for certain pitches of whining. Unfortunately, if you leave the unit on it burns through a battery a day. The battery is a 6V which is not easy to find and costs around $4. We are hoping that this issue is due to our having a defective unit and that it can be exchanged for one that doesn't tear through batteries. Otherwise this is an expensive training program. In addition, now that the battery keeps dying, our dog is back to barking.

3 out of 5 stars It really depends on your dogs.. and doens't work if you have a lot of dogs.   November 6, 2008

I got this for my 4 dogs. I have a pitbull mix who doesn't shut up once she starts, a chihuahua who is pretty much the same way and 2 shepherd mixes who usually start the barking but are over it within a couple of seconds. Well.. aside from them setting of each other collars (which doesn't teach them anything) it did help the Chihuahua a little bit. The AVID barker got used to it and wouldn't care. She would empty the spray holder within 30 seconds of barking and then it would become useless.

If you have 1 or 2 dogs who are easily distracted from barking (you making noise or yelling makes them stop) then this should work. If you dog totally zones out when they're barking, this probably won't work. Also, if you have 4 dogs like me and they all bark at each other, it doesn't help because everyone's collars go off if they're within 2-3 feet of each other.

4 out of 5 stars worked at first   October 29, 2008

This is a great product unless your dog is as determined as mine! My little Shih-tzu was quite shocked by this when he first had it on. (Quite amusing to watch!) The first few days it worked great, but then he just decided to bark through it after he realized it was annoying but not harmful! But it was worth a shot over the anti-barking alternatives.

3 out of 5 stars Barking collar not quite as good as advertised   October 28, 2008
Francesca D. Bowman (Western Mass.)
This product is wonderful when it works. The package includes a battery and cylinder of citrenella. The battery I received did not work. I spent $6.99 for a new battery at a pet store. The provider promised to send a new one, but it never arrived. The cylinder of cintenella soon runs out because the device will not work unless there is a full amount of citrinella in the chamber. (It takes much more than the recommended 20 seconds to fill the chamber). Too soon, the citrenella needs to be replenished. All in all, if the collar is working, it works well.
