4 out of 5 stars Re:   June 20, 2003

I didn't purchase the video yet but it seems like I want to buy it- my chocolate lab puppy is crazy! I just wanted to reply to the review "How to Torture Your Dog." I read somewhere that if you're training your dog, and you do something that causes him to yelp, he usually doesn't yelp because it hurts, but he becomes so surprised that he acts "as if he is mortally wounded." A mother dog would do the same thing to raise her puppy and the puppy would yelp, but the mother would not be hurting her puppy. Just so you know! I would think the same thing about this movie if I didn't read this one statement somewhere. Thank you!

5 out of 5 stars Finally, the help I needed!!! THANK YOU CHARLOTTE!   May 2, 2003

In an age where everything is taken to its most complicated level it was incredibly refreshing to view this video. It not only pointed out the problems with my own inconsistencies when attempting to work with my puppy, but it explained them in a very down to earth and easy to understand format. When most people think of dogs they feel as though they have been domesticated for so long that there isnt much instinct left in your basic pet- even though their instinct is to try to establish that they are the ALPHA! Charlotte talks about how important it is that the owner be the ALPHA not the dog. So many bad behaviors can be stopped just by establishing this! A little practical application has allowed me the oppotunity to accomplish what I set out to do. I am pleased with this video because it teaches the owner to train their dog by being fair and consistent, loving , without yelling or hitting their dog. You won't regret purchasing this training video!

5 out of 5 stars Best DOG TRAINER in KC!   April 15, 2003

If a person does not have access to the BEST Dog Trainer, this video will do nicely. I have attended 10 training classes with Charlotte training ME, not my Chessies and Chessies NEED training. I have rescued this beloved breed for many years and have had dog come from every walk of life...
Every time I have attended a class I have learned something new. It is not the dogs fault for not obeying it is OUR fault for not giving them the direction they so desperately need from us humans. I would watch this video over and over, you pick up something new every time! Enjoy and happy training with your K9 partner for life!

4 out of 5 stars I tried other methods to no avail   April 8, 2003

I have a chocolate lab rescue dog who did not respond to other dog training classes. Luke and I tried clicker training, treat training, the supposed gentle leader leash. Those methods did not work. Some friends of mine who had witnessed my frustrations recommended Charlotte's tape. Luke and I now understand each other. I am the leader he was looking for and I have a different dog. My parents and friends can not believe the metamorphosis. If you need help you will find it with this tape and Charlotte's philosophy.

1 out of 5 stars How to torture your dog.   April 1, 2003

I have a real problem with this woman.
There are several times in the tape where she makes the dog she is working with yelp in pain. Then she has the nerve to say: "Oh, that didn't hurt as much as you are letting on".
I don't think you have to create pain in an animal to the point where they yell in pain, in order to teach them what you want them to do. There are plenty of counter examples of professional trainers who use love and respect to get the animal to behave in a manner the trainer wants, without causing the animal to scream.

I hope you will NOT use this tape, nor her methods. Those techniques work, no doubt, but let's get a little more enlighted shall we? Let's not torture the one's we are trying to love.
