5 out of 5 stars like the person says, it's all about the recipe   October 8, 2008
Mark Twain (Davis, CA)
I've been using these for 25 years, and they work well. Ignore the directions and experiment til you get the right masa/lime juice/water mixture; it only takes a few tries. I'm buying my third one because the handle broke on some too-thick wet masa. I only use this for corn tortillas.
PS I have no idea what the "griifin" thing is about.

1 out of 5 stars This is exasperating!!   September 29, 2008
J. L. Moulton (Rockville, MD)
I've used this thing twice to make sure that I was doing it right and still did not perform AT ALL. It said make tortilla dough into 2" balls, which I did, the tortilla ended up being about 5 or 6" upon completion and very thick and chewy. Now those are the ones that didn't blow apart in the machine - there were about 20 of those. I made enough dough to make about 50 tortillas and didn't end up with even one that was good. I'm so disappointed! I definitely would not recommend this product, (and I even read the customer reviews before I purchased this) some of you are lying!!! This thing does NOT work!!

5 out of 5 stars This is a great product   July 31, 2008

First let me just say that there is no way to make the large tortillas on the front page with the recipe in the book. I use about 3C of flour, and divide the dough balls into 10 not 12, and they make really large tortillas. I made over 90 tortillas the first week I had the machine. It is quite simple the instructions and the warnings are all in the book. Put the rounded dough in the machine, flatten it until you hear the steam escape, rotate it, flatten it until you hear the steam escape repeat this until the dough stops expanding. With a little patience and trial and error you will have great tortillas in no time. This is a must have if you want fresh home made flour tortillas with out all of the rolling pin hassles. Thanks for a great product!

If your like me who is looking for a chapathi maker - then please do not buy this - This can make out hard baked - Craker/ Papad like roti/ chapathi. Wouldnt know much about making tortilla on this though.

4 out of 5 stars Worked very well for me   July 4, 2008

Last night I was trying to make corn tortillas by hand for the first time. I've made tons of flour tortillas, but the difference is like night and day. I ended up just giving up because the dough was sticking to everything and I couldn't even roll it flat. I put the dough away to try out the new press and made some flour tortillas instead.

I got the press about an hour ago, and just finished making about 10 gorgeous, perfectly flat corn tortillas. They taste pretty good, too. Take that, corn tortillas!

You definitely need to add a little more water than seems "right" for the mix. I added a bit of water and some oil as well because they were sticking to the top plate. They peeled off easily with a spatula and it didn't cause problems, but I get the feeling that's not normal.
