Product Description Diana Sammataro and Alphonse Avitabile have revised and expanded their clear and comprehensive guide to cover changes in beekeeping. They discuss the crisis created by the parasitic bee mites. In less than a decade, for example, Varroa mites have saturated the North American honeybee population with disastrous results, devastating both managed and wild populations. The new edition of The Beekeeper's Handbook covers mite detection and control as well as the selection and testing of bees that may have some tolerance to mites. *Serves as a comprehensive well-illustrated introduction for beginners and a valuable reference for the experienced beekeeper. *Outlines options for each operation within beekeeping, listing advantages and disadvantages of each alternative. *Provides easy-to-follow directions and diagrams. *Includes glossary and updated bibliography suggesting more detailed information on the topics discussed.

As complete as one can get! September 30, 2008 Ol" Geezer (Connecticut) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
The book is as complete as one can expect-sometimes complicated-very involved-sometimes difficult for the beginner-is it possible to have or give too much detail?
The Beekeeper's Handbook May 2, 2008 J. Guilbert (Selma, OR USA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Excellent reference material written for all levels. Would recommend to anyone thinking about getting started in this facinating "hobby".
Accessible bee-keeping March 26, 2008 Andrew A. Bruce It may be a matter of personal taste but this is the first book on this topic which gives me a feeling of being able to access bee-keeping. It seems to strip away the lore and mystery which have always accompanied bee-keeping. For the record I have yet execute the plan to acquire bees for honey. At least this books makes me feel more like it is something I can do.
A good book for information and easy to understand October 9, 2007 Lee R. Womack Jr. 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This book gives you all the pratical information you need and also has some good artwork and pictures, most books show images that are hard to see, but this one has nice large images
Good book August 26, 2007 F. Whitby (Salt Lake City, UT United States) 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
I like this book quite a-lot. I recommend it over BeeKeeping for Dummies. Well written, nice pictures, simple style.
