Really great book for especially for someonw looking for an alternative to a dry lot for their horse November 23, 2008 Sara E. Trent (Blacksburg, VA) This book explains a really great idea for keeping horses, especially easy keepers and laminitis prone horses. The paddock paradise track system encourages horse to move around more than the alternatives of standing in a dry-lot or being out on pasture getting fat. Jaime Jackson bases all of the ideas he has for setting up your paddock paradise from his observations of the wild mustangs out west. Some of his suggestions seem a little out there, but even in it's most minimal form Paddock Paradise seems like a great options and is an interesting book for anyone looking for a healthier lifestyle for their horse.
If you know to look for this book, you probably don't need it October 7, 2008 Kathryn M. Austin Don't get me wrong, I like the ideas presented in this book and intend to implement at least some of them when I set up my farm. But if you've read about Paddock Paradise on a website or in another book or have even been told about the general idea - save your money. It's interesting to learn about how Jackson came up with the idea and some of his suggestions I imagine will be helpful, but he admits in the book that there is very little data to support the ideas at the time he wrote it. Personally I think he should have promotted his website more and waited to write the book until sufficient data was collected. Oh, and I find his writing style pretentious and annoyingly academic at times. Just say what you mean, dude! Don't pick your words to make yourself sound smart and fancy!
Good book August 25, 2008 Katie M. Sloat (Maine) This book is very helpful in learning about the natural horse in its enviornment, and then it is good at developing what has been learned and applying it to a real life paddock. People with horses should definatly get this book to better their horses lives.
Wish every horse owner would read this book June 15, 2008 Janet K. Myers (Springfield, Mo USA) Quality in depth instruction that helps owner to create a better living condition for their equine friend. Would recommend and have to anyone.
Must have "pattern" for those wishing to keep horses "naturally." May 31, 2008 L. Lee (Maine) I read this book when a friend recommended it, but she said "You'll want to buy one for yourself, I bet!" She was correct. It is a book to follow in setting up your horse pastures in such a way as to stimulate "natural" horse keeping! It will be a book that I will want to refer to more than once, as my project develops. I think it is a "must have" book for people who keep their horses at home!
