Editorial Reviews:

Product Description
Here is a useful new reference volume that identifies and masterfully illustrates common ophthalmologic disorders of small domestic animals, such as dogs and cats, as well as horses, cattle, sheep, goats, pigs, rabbits and birds. The text emphasizes disease that can typically by difficult to diagnose without specialised experience or specific instruments. Rare sign are also described to complete the range of possible ophthalmic disorders – making differential diagnosis easier for the veterinarian.

This book encourages and helps equip a practitioner to attempt treatment of veterinary ophthalmologic cases, yet clearly shows the therapeutic limits faced by the nonspecialist. Description includes preliminary measures that can be taken before referral as well as potential professional errors.

Each chapter begins with an introduction to specific anatomy and physiology of the eye and supporting structure, noting pathogenesis, etiology, clinical course and therapy. Systemic congenial disorders are discussed, especially ophthalmologic conditions brought about by external influences, such as trauma, intoxication or deficiency. The text then progresses to inflammation and infectious diseases. At the end of a chapter, discussion covers degenerative processes, autoimmune disease and neoplasia.

Book Description
The standard work for ophthalmology in veterinary practise - now completely revised and extended. In its modern layout, the new edition continues a tried and tested concept. The present day developments in ophthalmological diagnostics and therapy are supplemented comprehensively throughout the book. In ophthalmology, the paramount maxim is Learning by doing. This book provides a concrete guide to diagnostics and therapy of all important eye diseases in small animals especially for those general veterinary practitioners without any specific experience in ophthalmology and to students. It enables the determination of a diagnosis even without specialised instruments, while at the same time it gives answers to the important questions: When should an eye patient be referred to a specialist? Which preparations are necessary for doing this? Specific veterinary features in pet animals, horses, birds and farm animals are compared. A special chapter dedicated to ophthalmological emergencies enables quick and assured actions to be undertaken in emergency situations. The structure of the book follows the steps of a clinical examination making it particularly user-friendly. First-class new colour photographs and instructive drawings illustrate symptoms, diagnosis and treatment methods.

This book is a great practical guide to veterinary ophtalmology. Everything you need to know is in it, without digressing on impractical, boring and useless information. The pictures are relevant and of good quality. The subjects are well structured and in a logical order what makes it easy to look things up. It emphasizes on small animals, but there is information about large animals as well. A book that every practicioner should have!
